Joining a Windows 7 computer to the IBG domain

These are instructions for joining a Windows 7 computer to the IBG domain. Joining the domain will allow use of a single password for desktop and network access, and automatically attach to network file shares at login time.

  1. Download and apply the registry patch
    1. Double click on the downloaded file to apply it, accepting the security warning and proceeding
  2. Restart the computer
  3. Open the start menu
  4. Enter gpedit.msc into the Search programs and files box
    1. Select Administrative Templates
    2. Select System
    3. Select User Profiles
    4. Double click on Do not check for user ownership of Roaming Profile Folders
    5. Check Enabled
    6. Select OK
    7. Close the Local Group Policy Editor
  5. Right click ComputerProperties
  6. Select Advanced System Settings
  7. Select Computer Name
  8. Select Change
  9. Select Member of… Domain
  10. Enter IBG
  11. Select OK
  12. Enter User name and Password of the domain administrator
  13. On Welcome to the IBG Domain box, select OK
  14. The DNS error is expected, select OK
  15. Restart
  16. At the login screen select Switch User
  17. Select the Other User icon
  18. Enter User name and Password of domain user
