Reading IBG e-mail from an IMAP
“IMAP clients” are software programs such as Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird. These same instructions also apply to accessing IBG e-mail from other software or devices, such as the Apple iPhone, which support the IMAP protocol.
This page will give detailed instructions for configuring Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird to read IBG e-mail, and generic instructions for configuring other IMAP clients.
Generic configuration settings for IMAP access to IBG e-mail
IMAP is a protocol used to read e-mail from a remote server. The general settings used are listed below. Different software and devices may use slightly different names for some of these settings.
Incoming server/IMAP server
Server type: IMAP
Server name: ibgmail.colorado.edu
Port: 993
Security: SSL
IMAP Server directory/prefix/namespace: mail
Username: Your IBG username
Password: Your IBG password
E-mail address: Your address@Colorado.EDU
Outgoing server/SMTP server preferred settings
Server name: ibgmail.colorado.edu
Port: 465
Security: SSL
Username: Your IBG username
Password: Your IBG password
Outgoing server alternative settings (if the preferred settings do not work)
Server name: ibgmail.colorado.edu
Port: 25
Security: TLS
Username: Your IBG username
Password: Your IBG password
Outgoing using CU's mail server
It is possible to use CU's general outgoing server to send messages.

This uses your Identikey password, which may be different from your IBG password.
Incoming Server/POP3 server - POP3 is *not* a preferred method of retrieving email from the IBG mail server, but it is supported for use with services such as GMAIL, which only support POP3.
