IBG servers

A summary of the currently accessible IBG servers, sorted by speed:

delta 2 CPU x 4 cores (8 total), 16GB ram, primary server

Because primary storage is on this system, all manipulation of large data files in home directories should be done on this system. It has the most and fastest processors, so will do well with Mx and other CPU intensive jobs. Because it performs so many functions for IBG, jobs which impact other users (by using too much memory or overloading the system) will be killed. The operating system and software is considered “stable” in that upgrades of system sofware will be rare.

linux 1 CPU x 4 core (4 total), 8GB ram, backup server

This system holds backups of IBG's data. It sits idle during the day and is available for almost any task at other times. Tasks which severely impact backup times (primarily by using too much memory) may be throttled or killed. The operating system and software is considered “stable” in that upgrades of system software will be rare.

This is my workstation and is available for others to use. Mx and other CPU intensive jobs are welcome, but I will throttle or kill jobs which impact my use of the computer as a desktop. The operating system and software is considered “unstable” in that upgrades will be very frequent to stay with the most cutting edge software. Upgrades will generally occur on Mondays, though they can be delayed, for example, to avoid upgrading R while a simulation is active.

This is the secure Add Health server. It is only available to Add Health researchers. All Add Health data must stay on this server. The operating system and software is considered “stable” in that upgrades of system software will be rare.

This system is dedicated for scientific computing. Data on the system is not backed up, so care should be taken to archive any important results.
