====== Reading IBG email from an IMAP ======
"IMAP clients" are software programs such as Microsoft [[http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/|Outlook]] and Mozilla [[http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/|Thunderbird]].  These same instructions also apply to accessing IBG email from other software or devices, such as the Apple [[http://www.apple.com/iphone/|iPhone]], which support the IMAP protocol.

This page will give detailed instructions for configuring Microsoft [[http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/|Outlook]] and Mozilla [[http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/|Thunderbird]] to read IBG email, and generic instructions for configuring other IMAP clients.

==== Generic configuration settings for IMAP access to IBG email ====
IMAP is a protocol  used to read email from a remote server.  The general settings used are listed below.  Different software and devices may use slightly different names for some of these settings.

  * Outgoing using CU's mail server
    * It is possible to use CU's general outgoing server to send messages.
    * Follow the instructions at [[http://oit.colorado.edu/services/email-calendaring/exchange/help/e-mail-programs/imap-connections|OIT's email configuration page]] for **outgoing** email only.
    * This uses your Identikey password, which may be different from your IBG password.
  * Incoming Server/POP3 server - POP3 is **not** a preferred method of retrieving email from the IBG mail server, but it is supported for use with services such as GMAIL, which only support POP3.
