COMPONENTS:

Component V: Molecular Approaches to Understanding Drug Dependence Phenotypes

The component will implement methods for identifying specific genes influencing substance and conduct problems. These methods will include (a) sophisticated association/linkage studies that use informative single-nucleotide polymorphisms in or near most genes in QTL's uncovered by Component 1; (b) candidate studies that prioritize genes in those QTL's; and (c) innovative DNA pooling strategies for association or disequilibrium studies, seeking differing allele frequencies in our well-defined, matched case and control groups.
