Dr. Andrew Smolen is a research associate at IBG whose background is in the fields of biochemistry and pharmacology. In addition to directing the IBG Core Genotyping and Sequencing Laboratory, he is co-investigator on several large-scale behavioral genetics projects including a study of alcohol use and behavioral problems in subjects from the National Youth Study and a study of DSM-IV criteria of ADHD diagnosis and genetic correlates in an ethnically diverse community sample. He is currently investigating associations of candidate dopaminergic and serotinergic genes with substance abuse, personality traits and problem behaviors; and the association of a possible susceptibility locus defined by a QTL on chromosome 6p21.3 with ADHD in children from three ethnic groups.
